Holiday Learning Techniques

This time of year is always so busy. Last minute projects, Christmas shopping, relatives visiting, trips planned, parties, exams. You name it. So how best to squeeze in some time for learning that new skill versus it being on your New Year’s resolution list? Other learning techniques

Here are today’s 5 learning techniques.

  • Find a dedicated learning space. A “she” shed or a “man” cave where you can hide for a few minutes away from the chaos and get some learning in. A quit space and make the time spent learning without the distractions much more effective.
  • Visual board. Put a whiteboard up that’s visible to your family so they know you need to squeeze this in with everything else going on. You should also include all the other craziness of the holiday season. This way your personal, work, family, and skill projects all get done.
  • Digital detox. It’s probably good this time of year to put your phone away more and spend time with the family. Benefit: take a few of those minutes and use them on your skill training.
  • Teach someone else. Those who teach learn…. Help thw kids with exams, a coworker on a project, or a family member with their work. I’ve always found with teaching someone something I always pick up a new learning myself.
  • Morning Reflections. This time of year is a great time to reflect on the good and bad of the best year. Impactful learning can be picked up from this simple practice. I also find this practice really helps prioritize where you spend your time. Are you really spending your time on the things that matter most to you?

Using these techniques at work

Put your personal time in with the work time. This time of year that is so important to keep organized. Also your company may have learning or goal platforms that could help you. Not including a large content library in a system like Litmos with all kinds of great skills you can pick up quickly.
