SaaS inside and out

I recently talked to a co-worker about the difference between SaaS and traditional software businesses. With so many software products and businesses out there. What is a good definition of a SaaS? What makes a good one, and what makes a bad one?


At a high level, a great SaaS business provides a valuable, user-friendly solution, ensures scalability, and prioritizes security. It also focuses on exceptional customer support, adopts a sensible pricing strategy, and implements effective sales and marketing efforts. Additionally, prioritizing customer success, continuous innovation, and maintaining a profitable business model are crucial. They usually charge a recurring pricing model based on users, usage, or functional tiers.

Most users would say companies like Spotify, Netflix, Adobe, YouTube, Duolingo, and Litmos would be great SaaS businesses. Is user perception and satisfaction the best way to judge a SaaS company? That’s what most people would call the NPS score.
